Today is the first day working downtown. I get to experiment with riding the train, which means leaving the house earlier in the morning. That got me thinking about how I may need to adjust my morning schedule to make sure I get out the door on time.
One thing led to another, and now I’ve completely up-ended my daily routine. It’s probably about time, too, because it wasn’t working anymore. I was supposed to exercise in the morning. I don’t. I was supposed to write during my lunch break because it’s my most productive hour of the day. It’s not anymore. I was supposed to leave other things for evening, but I’m usually falling asleep then. Something had to change.
So now I start the day off walking the dog as usual, and then get in the shower right after I get home, before my wife gets up. While she’s showering I’ll read my scriptures–and hopefully be more awake to get something out of it. Then I’ll finish getting ready, eat breakfast, spend some time with the kids, and then head off to the train.
Lunch-time will now become my walking time. There will be a few places downtown where a person can walk at a reasonably health-inducing speed, and there will be some interesting shops to explore. I may even see if the stairway is open–our new office is on the 13th floor. A little mid-day exercise may even help me stay awake better during boring meetings in the afternoon! 😉
Hopefully getting in better shape will also help me stay awake better in the evenings. I’ll have a longer contiquous block of time, which will hopefully make for better writing. I may not always be able to write every day, but it will probably average out, and with fewer stops and starts perhaps my stories will hang together a bit better.
We’ll see how it goes. I still haven’t decided what to do on the train yet. I’m going to ride it for a few days first and see what it’s like before I decide. It may be a good place to write or read, but then I may get motion sick doing that. At the very least I can keep listening to podcasts or music, perhaps even an audio-book. We’ll just have to see.
They say a change is as good as a holiday. If so, this may be a shake-up of 5-day cruise proportions. Only time will tell if that’s a cruise through the Caribbean or along the Somali shore.
